Concern welcomes Ireland's continued commitment to international development amid global aid cuts

Concern Worldwide welcomes the publication today of Irish Aid's Annual Report 2025. We commend Ireland's continued support for communities grappling with the combined impacts of conflict, hunger, displacement, and increasingly severe climate shocks.
“Ireland's leadership comes at a critical time as global humanitarian and development funding faces unprecedented cuts,” Concern Worldwide Chief Executive Officer Dominic Crowley said. “As humanitarian needs grow around the world, Ireland's investment in international development demonstrates that our country continues to stand alongside people facing poverty, conflict, hunger and disasters.”
“This funding helps save lives, strengthens communities, and creates opportunities for people to build more secure futures. It is also an important statement about the kind of world in which we want to live - one where our shared humanity matters, and where people facing crisis are not neglected.”
The actions outlined in today’s report are all positive political signals that people living in extreme poverty should be supported. As conflicts become more brutal and complex, and disasters become more severe and unforgiving, Ireland's contribution is making a real difference and changing lives.
Concern anticipates that the Government of Ireland's continued championing of humanitarian and development assistance will be reflected in Budget 2027 and during Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“At a time when many countries are stepping back, Ireland's commitment and its voice matters,” Mr Crowley said. “Ireland can continue to lead by example and encourage others to do the same. In an increasingly uncertain world, that leadership has never been more important.”
