Concern Worldwide was recognised for its accounting and financial reporting practices at the Published Accounts Awards yesterday.

The international humanitarian organisation won the large not-for-profit category at the ceremony, organised by the Chartered Accountants Leinster Society.

“We are delighted and extremely proud to have won this reputable award in our category,” Concern Chief Executive, Dominic MacSorley said.

“The generosity of the public and our donors – including Irish Aid -- make Concern’s work possible and we work very hard to ensure the highest levels of transparency and accountability.

“It is not just something we do, it central to all we do.  It is part of our DNA and has been for more than 50 years.”

Judges' praise

The award judges praised the report’s excellent flow, particularly regarding its strategic plan and programmes.  They also highlighted the information it featured, including a thorough explanation of the risks Concern faced.

“In these challenging times, we are inspired to continuing to deliver high quality, accountable work towards a better world, one without fear, hunger or poverty,” Mr MacSorley said.

Last year Concern Worldwide helped 28.6 million people in 24 countries. Details about its work and how the public can help it eliminate extreme poverty can be found on its website www.concern.net.
