Burkina Faso

Why Burkina Faso? Over the last decade, Burkina Faso has faced an increasing amount of political instability and regional conflict, leaving over 25% of the country in need of humanitarian assistance. Concern has been responding to this crisis since 2021, as well as the ongoing challenges of climate change and chronic hunger and malnutrition.

Over 25% of Burkinabè require humanitarian assistance

In 2024 alone, humanitarian needs in Burkina Faso increased by 35% compared to the previous year. One in four Burkinabè will require humanitarian assistance this year. Of this 6.3 million, an estimated 55% are children.

Further complicating matters is that 2025 marks the fifth consecutive year that the UN’s humanitarian response plan for the country has been significantly underfunded. As of May 2025, only 13% of the required funds have been met for the year.
