Concern's staff are on the ground in CAR preventing malnutrition amongst children who are at risk, and implementing sustainable programmes in communities to build resilience against future shocks. Our team met Dominique* and her two-year-old granddaughter Sylvie* in Mboto, CAR. Sylvie’s mother died suddenly, leaving her and her two siblings in the care of their grandmother, Dominique.

Still grieving the loss of her own daughter, Dominique and her husband work hard to provide for the family, but, with the cost of food so high, and income so low, it’s an almost impossible task to meet household needs. 

Dominique grew concerned about her three grandchildren’s health and brought them to be assessed. As a result, Sylvie and her two siblings received the nutritional support they so desperately needed in order to prevent malnutrition.

Thankfully there is something that can help prevent children from becoming malnourished, something very simple: It’s porridge, made from flour that has been enriched with essential vitamins and minerals, and can be truly life-changing for children at risk of malnutrition. 

Sometimes referred to as Four Star porridge, it includes all four key food groups; carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and fats, and comes in dried form to be mixed with water.
