Concern’s rapid cholera response was a targeted emergency WASH intervention implemented in June 2025 in Quara Woreda, Amhara Region, under the Ethiopia Rapid Response Mechanism (ETRRM). It focused on cholera hotspots, including religious sites and displacement-affected communities, and was delivered in partnership with Faith in Action and local government authorities.

The response combined rapid assessments, emergency water and sanitation services, capacity strengthening, and close coordination with local authorities. Activities included the installation of emergency water treatment systems and handwashing stations, the rehabilitation of hand-dug wells and sanitation facilities, and the training local WASH committees and government staff.

This learning paper highlights the results achieved, challenges encountered, and lessons learned on local partnerships, adaptive programming, community engagement, and government coordination, offering recommendations to strengthen future cholera preparedness and response efforts in Ethiopia and similar contexts.
