mWater in Somaliland: Lessons for Better WASH Planning

This learning paper presents lessons from Concern Worldwide’s 6-month pilot of the mWater platform for water point mapping and WASH data management in Somaliland. 

Implemented across Borama, Sheikh and selected villages in Odweyne district, the pilot explored how digital, GPS-enabled data collection can strengthen evidence-based planning, prioritisation and management of water services in a context characterised by recurrent drought, climate variability and increasing pressure on limited water resources.

The paper shares practical lessons on the use of digital WASH monitoring systems, challenges encountered during implementation, and recommendations for improving water resource management, service delivery and sector coordination in Somaliland and similar contexts.
