Women’s health technology entrepreneur named 2025 Women of Concern Honouree

Berabose Aline Joyce, a female-focused health service entrepreneur and women’s rights activist, has been named as this year’s Woman of Concern honouree.
Berabose is the co-founder and CEO of LUNA, a platform revolutionising women’s access to health and wellness across Africa. Luna provides telehealth and digital services to women, enabling them to get the information and health products that they need from identified trusted service providers. It enables women to anonymously engage with other women and experts on key topics such as mental health, sexual and menstrual health, and antenatal and postnatal care.
Berabose and her family have a close connection to Concern. She was born in Democratic Republic of Congo to a mother who had fled the genocide in Rwanda. Berabose and her mother, Marie Ange, received treatment for malnutrition at a refugee camp in DRC that Concern was supporting.
“I am truly honoured to be named this year’s Woman of Concern. My activism is rooted in the belief that healing and justice are interconnected; true wellbeing cannot exist without confronting the inequality and injustice that mark the lives of those carrying deep suffering," said Berabose.
“With this honour, I dedicate the award to women like my mother, whose strength continues to guide me, and to young voices who deserve spaces of peace, dignity, and belonging. May this recognition carry our work forward with strength and purpose.”
Berabose is a passionate advocate for gender equality, she serves on the Rwanda Feminist Forum and Rwanda Women’s Alliance and has been recognized as a 2024 Mandela Washington Fellow and one of Rwanda’s 32 Women Changemakers.
“I am delighted to recognise Berabose Aline Joyce as our 2025 Women of Concern Honouree. Her journey, from a refugee camp to becoming a powerful activist, advocate and changemaker, has been intertwined with Concern, both through her inspiring story and her previous impactful role as our Youth Ambassador,” said Dominic Crowley, Concern Chief Executive.
“As founder and CEO of LUNA, Aline is transforming access to women’s health in Rwanda, championing women’s health and rights and transforming access to care for women in Rwanda. Aline’s leadership and commitment to gender equality and women’s rights in Rwanda truly embody Concern’s values of resilience, compassion and hope.”
The annual Women of Concern event is now in its seventh year and pays tribute to inspiring women and role models who embody justice, generosity and compassion in their work and daily lives. It also highlights how Concern’s work with communities in 26 countries currently, supports the global drive towards gender equality, a persistent and major obstacle to ending extreme poverty.
The theme of this year’s Women of Concern event is gender equality, an important pillar of the humanitarian work of Concern and vital to ending extreme poverty.
Previous Women of Concern honourees include, among others, Dr. Salome Mbugua, gender equality activist; Ifrah Ahmed, campaigner against female genital mutilation (FGM); Irish Ambassador to the US and former Ambassador to the United Nations, Geraldine Byrne Nason; and peace activist and human rights defender, Professor Monica McWilliams.
Today’s event (Friday 17th) in The Round Room at the Mansion House, Dublin, sees people from Ireland’s leading companies, organisations and businesses gather to support Concern’s work across the world, including Sudan, Gaza, Afghanistan, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Professional services firm, EY Ireland are again sponsoring the event, having done so since its inception in 2018.
In 2024, Concern helped more than 27 million of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people in 27 countries to alleviate poverty and hunger. We also reached 16.8 million people through our emergency response throughout the year.
