30 years of transformative work in Liberia

Concern has spent three decades in Liberia, supporting communities, building resilience and changing lives.

In 2026, Concern Worldwide celebrates 30 years of working in Liberia - a country of culture, history, and strength.

Concern Worldwide’s first engagement in Liberia was in 1991 with an emergency intervention, and we have been operating continuously in the country since 1996.

Our focus has been on health, nutrition, livelihoods, gender equality, agriculture and emergency response - all aimed at reducing poverty in Liberia and helping communities to build successful livelihoods and resilience against shocks.

These programmes include treating children suffering from malnutrition, establishing mother to mother groups, forming community savings and loan associations, training farmers in climate smart agriculture techniques, and enrolling children who have been forced to leave school in accelerated education classes.

We have also responded when crisis has struck - from the devastating Ebola epidemic in 2014, where we worked on prevention and provided safe dignified burials, to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when we delivered vaccines to keep families safe.

We are proud of the progress that we have made with the support of our local and national partners, and our fantastic team, but we are not done in our mission of ending extreme poverty, whatever it takes.
